Going green is the current trend. Television and radio are littered with ads pushing green products or services. Like it or not, this is the world we live in now. Is going green hard to do? Going green is easy when you take it day by day. In this piece we are going to give you some simple and cost cutting steps to take in order start going green.

There are literaly thousands of things you can do to save money and be “eco-friendly” at the same time. The first place to apply green technology in the home is in power generation. Take a good look at your utility bills and think about how nice it would be if you no longer had to pay them. You could save thousands! Think also about what it takes to deliver that electricity to your home.

Your power utility most likely operates on fossil fuels, and
then it has to send that electricity miles and miles through transmission lines, semi-conductors, transformers, etc. The fossil fuels burned to bring you that electricity are what polutes the enviornment.

Now Im no “tree hugger” or enviornmentalist, but I am for a clean planet. I also like the idea of not buying oil from OPEC.The easiest and most cost effective way to cut electricity costs and carbon emissions is to build your own renewable energy system. This sounds a lot more difficult than it actually is.

Building solar panels and/or wind turbines are the easiest and most available ways for the average person to go green with power consumption. Obviously there are many other methods the first time out. Like anything else – it becomes easier the more you do it. Getting the parts required to build solar panels can be a bit difficult if you dont know where to start. This is where many projects fail before they even get off the ground. This too was my dilema, until I came accross a couple of programs that filled in the gaps.

The first program I tried was Earth4Energy, and the second GreenDIYenergy. Both guides included all the information I wanted to start building solar panels, and where to get materials.

I’ve used both guides and I like Earth4energy a little bit more than GreenDIYenergy. E4E offered a bit more for your money and has great customer service. This can be a powerful first step in saving big money. Heating and electricity are where the most money can be saved and has the greatest impact on the enviornment. So get started going green today!
